Study on commercial vegetable pies

A team of APC Romania analyzed 70 varieties of vegetable pate from the trade in 2015.

Their study showed that the label of vegetable pastries does not display all the ingredients they contain, such as added sugar and carbohydrates.

In addition, the type of oil or spice is not specified, whether or not the soybean used has been genetically modified or whether the flavors used are natural or artificial.

Dr. Costel Stanciu, president of the Pro Consumers Romania Association warns that most fasting products on the market have a questionable nutritional value.

This is due to the multitude of food additives, the large amount of sugar and salt.

Vegetable pies have as main ingredient water or vegetable oil, and not vegetables.

Of the assortments analyzed, only a few had few additives, such as brand name novel, with a single additive.

The good news is that vegetable pate can be prepared at home, from various vegetables and legumes.

APC experts offer us 3 recipes for fasting pate, which are both tasty, nutritious and healthy.

Pea and chickpea vegetable fasting & # 8211 fasting

If you do not want to take care of harmful preservatives in commercial vegetable pies and enjoy spectacular flavors, I tend to think that this dish will catch your eye, especially now during Lent.

Preparation time:

Difficulty: reduced

Servings: 3

ingredients:

♦ 1 cup fresh or frozen peas

♦ lemon juice (to taste)

Method of preparation:

Boil the peas and chickpeas.

After they have boiled, we add them in a blender, over which we add the rest of the ingredients. If the composition is too thick, we can liquefy it a little, by adding a polish from the soup obtained by boiling peas and chickpeas.

We serve it with toast, tomatoes, cucumbers and capers. You can decorate it like me, with hot pepper flakes and green dill.

Mediterranean diet recipes: 8 healthy vegetable pate recipes

We love vegetable pate but we know it is not the happiest option for us. At least the one bought from the store, in many situations, is full of preservatives, artificial flavors, dyes and other dyes that can do us more harm than good. So why spend money on it? Why didn't we prepare our own fasting pate at home?

Here are my ideas for fasting pate, made from natural, nutritious ingredients, 100% whole, without anything processed, Mediterranean recipes:

Avocado pate with nuts: avocado + pecans + salt, pepper + lemon juice. Put in the blender and then spread on the bread. It is a homemade fasting pate, 100% natural and very easy to prepare. It is the most creamy pate in the world and is 100% Mediterranean.

Fasting pate made of hummus and parsley. Prepare a classic hummus and at the end, in a blender, add fresh green parsley. You will get a delicious hummus with a high level of antioxidants and fiber. And it is a delicious and healthy Mediterranean food.

The hummus is easy to prepare, boiled chickpeas (canned) + tahini (sesame paste) + lemon juice + salt, pepper + cumin powder + paprika + olive oil. It is a delicious pasta that keeps you hungry for a long time.

Below you have a picture with classic hummus. It is prepared from boiled chickpeas that we put in the blender together with a little olive oil, lemon juice, paprika or hot pepper, a little cumin, salt and pepper.

Humus with onion and garlic. I leave here the classic hummus recipe. It is the healthiest and most nutritious pate in the world. At the end you can chop green parsley and sprinkle a little cumin powder on top, plus good quality olive oil. Serve on toast or Lebanese stick.

Vegetable pate, fasting from hummus + grated celery + dill. Grate the celery and immediately add a little lemon juice to prevent its oxidation. Add chopped dill, mix well and finally add a few tablespoons of humus to bind the whole composition. I often consume this dish without bread, as such. It is particularly satisfying.

Kalamata olive paste with arugula on bread. Kalamata olives are put in a blender and olive paste is obtained, which you can serve on toast or fresh bread. Add fresh arugula or green parsley. It's fixed fasting, if you ask me, just without nonsense.

Chopped chickpeas with green parsley and a little finely chopped garlic + olive oil + lemon juice + salt and pepper. Crush the boiled chickpeas with the garlic pisalog or the mashed potato. In the chickpeas add the rest of the ingredients and you get a super delicious pasta. You can make it spicy or you can leave it as it is.

Avocado with tomatoes, onions, garlic, salt, pepper, lemon juice = Guacamole, the most tasty fasting pate you can dream of. It is of Mexican origin, a food that many consume with corn nachos. I like toast. It is a bomb of vitamins and minerals.

Avocado with grated carrot, grated celery, finely chopped parsley and chili flakes. It is a salad of vegetables that I eat on bread, like fasting pate. It is super nutritious, super tasty, extremely filling. 2 slices of bread with such fasting pastries keep you hungry for at least 2 hours.

I hope you like my fasting ideas. They are all homemade, 100% prepared at home, from what ingredients I have in the fridge and in the pantry. You can adapt them as you wish, with whatever ingredients you can make with your own eyes. You can consume them on the spot and you can keep them in the fridge for a maximum of 2 days, I would say. The point is, they won't last that long. You love her!

  • Chickpeas (400 gr)
  • Red onion (1/2)
  • Carrot (1)
  • Red pepper (1/4)
  • Green peppers (1/2)
  • Extra virgin olive oil (1 tbsp)
  • Salt to taste
  • the water

You will need to soak the chickpeas for 10/12 hours and then in the pot for another 10 hours.

Drain them and discard the soaking water. Put them in pots and cover with cold water until they cover 1 cm.

Put the lid on the pot and let it cook at high power for 10 hours.

And that's it. Preparing the recipe takes about 20 hours, but I set it up in just two steps. If you want to save the first 10 hours, you can buy chickpeas directly by boat. Otherwise, do not forget to drain the soaking water well.

As we usually do, that's it chickpea recipe with vegetables for crock pot that I brought you is the simplest version. Then you can vary it as you wish, adding more quantities or other vegetables, paprika and, why not, a little chorizo.

Chickpeas are a excellent source of vegetable protein and this recipe is the healthiest. In addition, the ingredients we will use are very cheap.

In short, this recipe for chickpeas for crokpot it is very easy to make, healthy and cheap.

We suggest you give up commercial products and try to make at least one of the following homemade vegetable pate recipes!

In trade you can find some varieties of vegetable pate, so fasting, but were you curious to look at the label? In addition to the tiny content of dehydrated vegetables and soy, which replaces animal protein, you can find an endless list of E's, from E412 (guar gum, used as a thickening agent) to E621 (the famous monosodium glutamate, about which harmful effects I wrote here).

If you sit and count the ingredients, you find that you easily get around the number 20. Do you like it a lot? That's right!

Normally, a vegetable pate should not contain more than 10 ingredients, taking into account the spices, including salt, pepper, parsley, etc.

Chickpea paste with baked peppers

I set out to experiment with as many healthy spreads as possible. Some I just like, others I just like the girl so I persevere to find optimal options for both. This recipe pleased both mother and daughter. I didn't mention my husband because he's not a fan of spreads, but I hope to change his preferences in the future :).

Ingredient:

  • 80g chickpeas
  • 1/2 small shallot onion (you can replace it with your favorite onion)
  • 1/2 teaspoon granulated garlic (I no longer had fresh garlic)
  • 1/2 baked pepper
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice (fresh)
  • 3 tablespoons boiling water
  • a teaspoonful of ground cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon herbs from Provence
  • a pinch of salt

Method of preparation:

  1. I left the chickpeas hydrated overnight. I washed it and boiled it until the grain became soft.
  2. I put all the ingredients in the blender and mixed them until I got a fine paste. I always have peppers baked in the freezer. I have portions with half a pepper that I can use for guacamole or other spreads.

I served the chickpeas for breakfast on crackers. When serving, add the olive slices.
