The Indiana couple has run Eddie’s Steak Shed for decades, but now Roberto Beristain faces deportation

“[Trump] did say the good people would not be deported, the good people would be checked,” Helen Beristain said.

Helen Beristain and her husband own the homey comfort-food restaurant Eddie’s Steak Shed in Granger, Indiana, and like many in her district, Beristain voted for Donald Trump. The catch? Her husband is an illegal immigrant and has been living and working without documentation in America for two decades. Now he faces deportation.

Beristain said she actually voted for Trump in part because of his rigid stance on illegal immigration — and despite her husband’s own immigration status.

“We don’t want to have cartels here, you don’t want to have drugs in your high schools, you don’t want killers next to you,” Beristain told Indiana Public Media. “You want to feel safe when you leave your house. I truly believe that. And this is why I voted for Mr. Trump.”

Roberto Beristain visited a relative in the United States in 1998 and stayed. Soon thereafter he met his wife and the two started a family. The two took a vacation to Niagara Falls in 2000, and Roberto’s status was discovered at the Canadian border. Although he was ordered to be deported, Roberto never left. It was only after President Trump’s harsh immigration policies went into effect this year that his 17-year-old deportation order caught up with him.

Roberto is in the process of getting a green card, but for now he is being held at an immigration detention center in Wisconsin.

“It’s going to be a long vacation in Riviera Maya,” Helen told local NBC station WNDU. “Never been there! I’ve never been to Mexico! Maybe I get to be! To get to beautiful places, like go to Cancun or do fun things, right?”

Holy shizz! How can this be??
Of all the power couples in the world, we’d never imagine Amy and Samy Bouzaglo getting split up — and NOT due to Samy getting deported!!
As co-owners of the infamous Amy’s Baking Company from Gordon Ramsay‘s Kitchen Nightmares, the two have had to fight with social media being on their asses over little things like ‘not giving their wait staff tips’ or being ‘abusive.’ Little did they know that Samy, a native Moroccan, was facing deportation due to a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement case to revoke his residency status!
And guess what? Samy has now reportedly been ordered deported for failing to disclose a criminal past in Europe decades ago!
That’ll do it!
He’s appealing, of course — and here’s what Amy had to say:

├óΓé¼┼ôHe├óΓé¼Γäós never broken the laws. He├óΓé¼Γäós only obeyed, respected the law of America. He loves this country and he fights for this country.”

Fights for it how?
Anyway, this isn’t the last we’ve heard from them on television, at least. Kitchen Nightmares‘ producers took Ramsay back for a followup episode due at the end of Feb.
As a side note, finding staff after all the accusations has been hard — but they’d never admit it. In fact, they only employ one person: a dishwasher. Because Amy says they don’t need anyone else.
Seriously:

“My husband and I don’t need anybody to work this restaurant. We don’t depend on anybody. Sometimes he doesn’t come if he’s sick, we can’t force him. We’re not going to break his leg because he’s not coming to work.”

We wonder if Samy’s appeals will be fruitful!
We’ll just have to wait in see — but maybe we’ll get an international edition of Amy’s Baking Company someday!
